Deputy Mayor Kamzy Gunaratnam

Kamzy Gunaratnam (Labour) was elected Deputy Mayor of Oslo by the City Council on 21 October 2015 and she was re-elected on 23 October 2019.

Deputy Mayor Kamzy Gunaratnam was born in Sri Lanka, came to Norway at the age of 3 and grew up in Oslo.

Kamzy Gunaratnam has been the leader of the Workers Youth League (AUF) in Oslo, member of the central board of AUF, and has been the editor of AUF's magazine, Praksis. Gunaratnam also has experience from several bipartisan organizations, such as Tamil Youth Organization and Youth Against Racism. In 2012 and 2013 she was a columnist in the Norwegian national newspapers Dagbladet and Dagsavisen.

The Deputy Mayor has represented the Labour party in Oslo City Council since 2007 and this is her fourth term in the City Council. She has previously been a member of the Standing Committee on Culture and Education and the Standing Committee on Health and Social Welfare. She is currently a member of the Standing Committee on Culture and Education.

Kamzy Gunaratnam is committed to political issues that contribute to more democracy, community involvement and transparency. She wants to help enable more people to take part in the social debate and spends a lot of time getting input from the citizens of Oslo.
