Prices and Payment for Parking – City of Oslo

You must pay a parking fee to park in municipal parking spaces. Check where you can park, how long you may stay parked, and what it costs.

When do you have to pay for parking?

You must pay to park in municipal parking spaces where signs indicate payment. If the parking sign has a supplementary sign showing hours, the rule applies only during the specified period:

  • Black numbers: Monday–Friday
  • Black numbers in parentheses: Saturday
  • Red numbers: Sunday, public holidays, and official holidays

Public and official holidays include:

  • December 25–26
  • January 1st
  • Maundy Thursday,
  • Good Friday,
  • Easter Sunday and Monday,
  • Ascension Day
  • Pentecost Sunday and Monday
  • May 1st
  • May 17th

On these days, the same rules apply as on Sundays. Parking is generally free on Sundays unless otherwise stated on signs. Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, Easter Eve, and Pentecost Eve are not public holidays.

How to pay for parking

You can pay at a parking meter or via an app. Parking meters are marked with tariff groups and prices. If card payment at the meter does not work, you must pay with coins or via an app.

With an app, you only pay for the hour you are parked. You can stop or extend the parking session without returning to your car, and you will be notified when your parking hour is about to expire.

Bil i Oslo App

With the Bil i Oslo app, you can easily check where you can park, how long you may stay, and what it costs. You can also pay for charging electric and hybrid vehicles.

The app does not offer invoicing solutions for businesses, but you can register a company card as a payment method.

Parking Disc

When parking in areas with a parking sign showing a disc symbol, you must use a parking disc. Parking is free but hour-limited. You can buy a disc in retail stores.

For the parking to be valid, you must register when you park the car. The parking time can be registered by:

  • Using a manual parking disc (placed in the windscreen)
  • Digital parking disc (placed in the windscreen)
  • Register the parking with an app by starting a free parking in “Bil i Oslo” or another parking app.
  • Other markings such as a handwritten note with the time of parking clearly visible in the windscreen.

Parking without any of these solutions is not allowed and will result in a parking ticket if the vehicle is controlled/inspected.

The map shows municipal parking spaces in Oslo. The map is for guidance only; changes may occur. Always check the street signage where you park. Signs indicate maximum parking hour, and the posted signage always applies.

Tariff Zones and prices

Charging at municipal charging stations is billed per hour. You may park for free outside fee hours, except in tariff group 2040 (commercial vehicle parking only).

  • Motorcycles/scooters park for free in areas marked for MC parking. If they park in regular paid spaces, they must pay the same rate as cars.
  • Parking is free for all vehicles with a disabled parking permit (HC-card).
  • Electric vans and hydrogen vehicles park for free in municipal parking spaces, but not at charging stations. Applies to commercial vehicles.

Parking with Car and Trailer

In marked spaces, you pay for the number of spaces you occupy. In unmarked areas, you pay for one space if the trailer is attached to the vehicle.
