Municipal council elections 2019

The municipal council election and elections to the district councils in Oslo are held on 8 and 9 September 2019. You can vote in advance from 12 August.

Who can vote?

You can vote in the municipal council election and elections to the district councils in Oslo if:

You are a Norwegian citizen who:

  • is entered in the National Registry as resident of Norway no later than June 30, 2019 and
  • is 18 years of age by the end of 2019

You are citizen of another Nordic country who:

  • is registered in det National Registry as resident in Oslo at the latest on 30 June 2019 and
  • is 18 years of age by the end of 2019

You are a foreign citizen of any other country who:

  • is entered in the National Registry as resident of Norway no later than 30 June, 2019 and
  • was entered in the National Registry as a resident of Norway for at least three years before election day and
  • is 18 years of age by the end of 2019

Where and when to vote

Election days

On election day, you must vote in the municipality in which you were registered as resident on 30 June 2019.

You can vote at any of the 103 polling stations in Oslo on the following days:

  • Sunday, 8 September: 13:00–18:00
  • Monday, 9 September: 09:00–21:00

Advance voting

Advance votes can be cast in any municipality in the country.

You can vote in advance at any of the 28 available polling stations in Oslo from 12 August to 6 September at these opening hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 10:00 – 19:00
  • Saturday: 10:00 – 18:00 (Blindern-UiO is closed on Saturdays)

Voting before 12 August

If you are unable to vote during the advance voting period or on election day you may cast your vote in Oslo City Hall from 1 July to 9 August, weekdays 09:00-15:30.

Voting at home

If you are ill or disabled, you can apply for voting from home.

You must apply by 4 September, 2019. Send an email to valgioslo@oslobystyre.no or call 476 97 063 between the hours of 09:00 and 15:30, weekdays.

Remember to bring ID when you vote

As a minimum, the identification must contain your name, date of birth and a photo. Examples of valid identification include a passport, driving licence or bank card with your photo. 

You do not need to bring your polling card with you, but it may save you time. The polling card does not count as identification.
