What to Expect in Oslo City Centre on the Day of the Funeral of King Harald V
The funeral of King Harald V will have a major impact on Oslo throughout the day on 9 September. Large parts of the city centre will be accessible only to pedestrians.

The funeral service for King Harald V will take place at Oslo Cathedral on Wednesday, 9 September, at 1:00 p.m. A procession will travel from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral and, following the service, continue to Akershus Fortress.
The City of Oslo expects large crowds in the city centre of Oslo on the day of the funeral. Large areas of the city centre will be closed off for both private vehicles and public transport, making it difficult to get around by any means other than on foot.
Anyone entering the restricted area must proceed on foot through security screening checkpoints staffed by the police.
The day is not a public holiday. Each individual school and workplace will decide whether they will facilitate viewing the funeral service, which will be broadcast on television.
Big Screens
Big screens will be set up along the procession route and will broadcast the service from Oslo Cathedral. A total of nine big screens will be set up along the procession route and in the city center.
Please see the attached map showing the areas of the city centre that will be closed to traffic. The locations of the big screens are also marked on the map.
Bicycles and E-scooters
Bicycles will not be permitted within the pedestrian zone. Nor will it be possible to bring bicycles through this area on foot.
E-scooters will not function within the pedestrian zone. The geofencing restrictions will be activated at 12:00 a.m. (midnight) on Tuesday, 8 September, and will remain in place until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 9 September. The restrictions are introduced this early to allow sufficient time to remove e-scooters from the area.
Parking Facilities
Nationaltheatret Parking Garage and the parking facility at Akershus Fortress will be closed from 9:00 p.m. on 8 September and throughout 9 September.
Public Transport
Please follow Ruter's travel advice and service updates, as there will be several changes and some service suspensions affecting public transport in the city centre.

Stortinget Metro Station and the westbound platform/tunnel at Nationaltheatret Station will be closed. At Nationaltheatret Station, the entrance from Johanne Dybwads plass will also be closed. Passengers must instead use the Ruseløkkveien entrance
The Metro will otherwise operate as normal. However, westbound trains will not stop at Nationaltheatret Station.
