About Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects the liver. It spreads through contaminated food or water, or direct contact with an infected person. The incubation period is typically 2 to 6 weeks.
Common symptoms include:
- Fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Dark urine
- Pale stools
- Abdominal pain
- Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
Diarrhea is uncommon. While hepatitis A does not lead to chronic illness, symptoms may persist for several weeks in some individuals. Most cases resolve without medical treatment. Supportive care, such as rest, proper nutrition, and sleep, is recommended.
Good hand hygiene is the most effective way to prevent infection and reduce the risk of transmission.
